Gravely  was one of a few companies that were cleared by the government to make tractors throughout world war ll. But due to the shortage of materials gravely had to change the engine blocks to cast iron. The serial number tags change to tin and due to the lack of rubber the tires and wheels were changed to steel. This is also when the switch from rubber to wooden grips started. This tractor has been converted back to the standard rubber tires. The wartime tractors were built in 1942 and 1943.

This is the first year gravely used the Kohler engine. These tractors suffered from a lack of oil supply due to a small oil pan. Consequently on slopes they ran low on oil and internal damage happened. The ground speed was to fast on these tractors. On following years lower gear options were available. In 1968 the tractors had a redesigned hitch, larger oil sump and used an alternator instead of a starter/generator. Other than horse power the redesigned tractor for 1968 basically stayed the same through the 70s and 80s.
